Eat, Shop, Chill:

10 places we love in Bali!

COVE ESSENTIALS #berawa

A tropical design store

When going to Bali one can see lots of nice home decor stores due to the vast artisanal production around the island. However, after 5 years of living here, it’s easy to get tired of always seeing the same.

Until now, my favorite design shops were in Seminyak but I just found a new one in Berawa! What they sell is not only focused on the traditional Bali style but on a tropical living. You can find some beautiful Moroccan towels, art, vintage carpets, and their own clothing brand.

The interior design of the shop is beautiful: light polish concrete and a touch of pastel pink. All products are amazingly displayed so you want to buy it all!

Behind COVE there’s 3 lovely people: Lisa, an Australian woman who works in production & loves to design; Priscilla & Nick, who take care of the photography from Sydney.

Not going to Bali soon? Don’t worry, they sell online here!

LES BASICS #canggu

A timeless fashion brand

At Les Basics you will find the perfect pair of denim shorts you need! All products are designed with love by Frederique Lessard and produced by Indonesian artisans. Her goal is to create clothing that makes you feel good! Everything is stylish, timeless and comfortable at the same time.

Plus, we love the pastel peach door!

THE LAWN #canggu

Breezy seaside venue

No pastel colors here but a perfect Canggu spot for a sunset beer.
Pool facing the ocean, rattan and wooden furniture, amazing cocktail menu and good music. The Lawn is the place to be on Friday evening.

Nice tip: They have a happy hour! 2 for 1!

AMO SPA #canggu

The ultimate beauty spa

I discovered this one because of a bad story. Climat here in Bali is always really humid so my hair decided to make big dreadlocks… I went straight to the hairdresser and the only solution they gave me was cutting! Of course I ran away! Lucky me, a few days earlier I met this Californian surfer who told us “in Bali there is the best hair salon of the world”. So there I went: Amo Spa.

A huge spa warehouse (again no pastel here), with a shop, a restaurant, sauna, pool, hairdresser, pedicure… Basically all you need. You can easily spend the whole day there!

Well… let’s make it short: they saved my hair! So HIGHLY recommended! Super well trained staff, beautiful decor.

MASON  #canggu

An urban-gourmet touch in Canggu!

This place is new and already full every single day!

Bold logo, concrete + wood interior design, garden lights, all staff in vans with high socks. A New York kind of atmosphere, here in Canggu.

At MASON everything is fresh, homemade and tastes delicious. When you read the menu, you think, without any expectations: “let’s try this… A broccoli salad… why not?” But then you try it and it’s actually the most delicious broccoli salad with mint and toasted almonds you’ve ever had! How can a simple salad taste sooooo good?

A good wine and cocktail selection, lots of snacks to share (special love to the homemade tarama!) and gourmet meals.

Are you in Canggu? You can not not go! Book NOW!

SEMINYAK

BALIBOLA #seminyak

Beautiful, healthy & tasty

At first, when we saw BALIBOLA we though its design was cool, obviously being attracted by the pastel colors, and not expecting much of their food. We thought it would be another cool Instagram place with “correct” food. How SURPRISED were we when we first tried it! Healthy yet not boring, super tasty and different from any other places you can see around.

We got a huge falafel wrap, a quinoa salad, berry juice, pancakes… ALL delicious and in big portions. Prices are good for what you get!

We highly recommend this place.

CAFÉ BALI #seminyak

One of the firsts

One of my favorite place in Bali. Built on a traditional joglo (Indonesian wooden house), Café Bali opened years ago and luckily it never changed. Good food, beautiful decoration. Café Bali is the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a lunch with friends. A western – Bali mix.

100% approved!

POTATO HEAD #seminyak

The home of tropical modernism

I’ve been coming to this place for years now and it still leaves me as amazed as the first time. An impressive light blue round building built with old wooden shutters.

Front beach club with live concerts, excellent service, best cocktails in the area. Highly recommended!

UBUD

CHAPUNG SEBALI #ubud

A hidden paradise in the jungle

A friend of ours works for the travel agency Voyageur Du Monde. Her job? Testing all hotels and activities around Indonesia (yes yes! A real dream job)! She told us we should spend a night in Chapung Sebali, so we did. It was the most relaxing weekend we had in a long time!

A huge pool in the middle of the jungle (35 meters!!!). A beautiful spa, well decorated rooms (a mix between Danish and balinese design). Just perfect for a quiet holiday.

You can even walk to the city center through the rice fields (to see the monkeys).

In Ubud only for a day? You can enjoy the pool (Jungle Fish area) while drinking fresh juice!

JIMBARAN

BALQUISSE HERITAGE #jimbaran

A charming hotel

Another great surprise during our trip: BALQUISSE.

We live between Bali and Lisbon, so during all those years we have tried many hotels, but this one was a WOW! How did we not know about it before?

We first booked it online as we wanted a weekend near the beach. Price was good, pictures were nice and the reviews were excellent. But when we arrived it was WAY better tan we thought. A hidden paradise. Every room is different, all decorated with style and taste by a French-Moroccan woman. 3 pools and very kind staff.

What we loved the most is how they used the old Indonesian craftwork to decorate the place. Plus, they didn’t built 100 rooms as usual (only 16) as they decided to keep the original gardens and living rooms, so you do feel at home.

Breakfast and tea time are served every day for guests (D E L I C I O U S).
The hotel is divided in 2 parts: Shaba area and Balquisse.

The Shaba area is more luxurious, with a pool table and a living room. One could easily host a wedding there!

They also have a nice restaurant and shop next to the hotel, as the owner is also behind a really nice furniture brand called BALQUISSE.

Price vs quality: AMAZING!

Going to Bali soon? Do not hesitate to contact us! We have many more good spots to recommend!
