Luckyboysunday is a brand which deserves appreciation for its responsible production. The cute cuddle toys are all hand-knitted with high-quality alpaca wool in Bolivia. Where a team works under ethical, fair trade conditions. The little rugs are hand tufted in India by a family owned factory. And the faux fur friends are made in a real teddy factory in China, by a team with a great sense of perfection.

Luckyboysunday isn’t only a toy brand for kids but also a must have in every design interior. First of all we just want to say that we are BIG FANS of your brand :)

Could you tell us a bit about how it all started and who is behind the brand?
We started in 2007 and launched the brand in 2008. We created a universe where everything could happen. We believe that everyone should have a best friend – and we wanted to show all kinds of human moods – so you’ve probably noticed that not all our characters are happy puppies!
Camilla was one of the original founders – finally she found the space to design all the characters she wanted with no restrains to what is trending. 2 years ago Marie entered the company together with her husband Rasmus, and on top of that we also have our business angel Jannick.

How did you get the idea to start working with baby alpaca for both toys and decoration?
Camilla did an internship in a Bolivian knitting company back in 2005 – this is where she built the network of super talented knitters that are still working with us today. Before starting the company, Camilla always created (knit, crochet and sewing) small creatures and sold in local stores.
How did you discover this material?
Well, the internship. Camilla completely fell in love with the quality and people. Since then she did two B2B government supported projects in Bolivia to improve the small workshops and has travelled and stayed there endless times.
We can say you are not a “regular” toys brand. Your designs are really unique. Where does your inspiration come from?
From our everyday, from people we meet, friends, family and pets. Even just moods.
Could you tell us a bit about your creative process?
One of us comes up with an idea – it can be a sketch or a concept. Then we will process the idea together so in the end it will either turn into a product or the idea will die. We love this stage, and we laugh a lot. Then after comes the production and financial stages. Those are a bit more done without laughing ;)

Which one was your first product? and which one is your favorite?
The first doll Camilla designed was Bonbon – so she’s an elderly lady by now and still just as popular. Our personal favorites are Kiki & Balthazar.
What is your more stressful memory launching or producing Luckyboysunday?
Nothing really, but looking back can get me really stressed out! You simply don’t know all the things you have to be good at before starting a company, haha.
If you had one advise to give to people who plan to start their own brand, what would it be?
Register your name all over the world before launching your brand. We are still struggling with Asian countries that have registered our brand in the dolls category and that simply means now that we are copying them and not the other way around. That hurts.
Any new exciting projects coming soon?
Always! Right now we are working on several collaborations, Japanese and Taiwanese– we love merging two brands – it’s so much fun. That is all we can say for now!
What is your favorite designer or brand?
We adore designers that are completely rolling on their own style not caring what other people think. That’s so brave. Camilla’s favorite at the moment is Korean fashion designer Minju Kim and all time favorite Danish architects like Wegner and Kjaerholm – unfortunately those two are deceased.
Marie loves the American/Korean illustrator Esther Kim and her universe and the German clothing brand “A kind of Guise”.
And finally, could you tell us which city is your favorite in the world?
Camilla: Tokyo and Berlin. Berlin is like a big brother to Copenhagen – which I also love – but everything just gets a bit better. Better food, better music, better what not. And Tokyo is just the best… like every little detail is perfect and amazing, big love!!
Marie: I truly love a lot of cities, but Seoul and Barcelona are forever in my heart. Seoul because of all the inspiration I get there. They are so ahead in every area. Barcelona because a part of my family lives there and the all around chill vibe.
