Casji Baby impressed us so much with the whole concept and the amazing products we couldn’t help but do an interview piece with the founder Sophia! Check it out:

Hello Sophia,

Could you tell us more about yourself?

I am a mother of three girls, I live between Bali and New Zealand, I own a few businesses (check out @baliglow) and juggle being at every nap and bedtime to do stories and snuggles with making sure all my businesses are running smoothly! I am a scorpio, I adore Matcha lattes and pilates, but there is nothing I love more than my family.

When did you start CASJI ? what is the idea behind?

I started Casji after my third child, Valentina, she was born premature and was in NICU for a while which gave me a really big fright, my other kids went full term and it was such a wildly different experience for me. I was immediately very protective and wanted everything to be super safe, soft and comfortable for my tiny delicate baby.

For years my two older daughters Honey and Lola had been sleeping with my cashmere jumpers that they had nicknamed Casji (Cashee) which were dragged around much to my horror at the time (can us mums ever have anything to ourselves? Like cashmere or a visit to the bathroom? No..) but what I figured was that of course they were so soft and comforting to children, not only that but the fibers were delicate and hypoallergenic so I decided that I wanted to create a safe sleeping space for Valentina, her sleep bag, out of cashmere because I simply couldn’t find anything in the market to meet my need. When we then moved to Bali I branched out organically to soft linen and muslin fabrics, ribbed cottons and then to cane furniture as those are the textiles that we meet with every day on the island that I believe are breathable and natural fibers that children should be in.

The Brand is all Made in Bali right?  Handmade ?

All our items are hand made in Mongolia, Bali, India or New Zealand. We specifically use women owned businesses to produce our goods wherever possible so that we can directly impact small lives positively in those communities.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I find a lot of inspiration from the island and from my travel. I am a very tactile person and so I go a lot off the feel of fabrics - you wont find anything scratchy in our ranges, its always about comfort through natural high quality fibres and minimalist style with a touch of cute.

What is the material you like the most to work with? why?

Cashmere - for very obvious reasons.. I also LOVE double muslin, its so incredibly soft and breezy, I actually made myself a dress out of it because I loved the fabric so much.

A little intro to the collection, what are the best sellers ?

Our best sellers are definitely the Casji Sleep bags and our Cane Valentina Bassinet. They’re musts for every nursery in my opinion!

What is your best design / work memory? Or the most stressful one?

Feedback has been my greatest reward. Having babies sleep better because of our cashmere sleep bags or hearing that they rub the soft wool to fall asleep makes me so happy. My daughters loving our products is also a really proud feeling.

If you had one advice to give to new brands, what would it be?

Put yourself out there, send the email, make the call, introduce yourself. Leave room for the magic.

Any new exciting projects coming soon?

Casji has just launched a small range of fine linen, muslin and cotton clothing as well as handmade dolls and cane toy furniture so that is super exciting for us.

What is your morning routine?

I wake up about 6am and get my youngest out of bed, nappy change then her sisters join us in the kitchen. Then - its coffee time and my day starts full throttle, brekkies, lunches, showers and school run. Probably - the same as you!

And Finally, could you tell us what is your favourite city in the world? Why?

I love Queenstown in my native New Zealand, the beauty, the snow, the atmosphere - it makes for a wonderful escape with family.
