Masquespacio x Maora: "Fragments of Tradition", A Ceramic Showroom in Valencia

Inside the space where a historic 1800s building in the heart of Valencia's old town becomes a stage for artisan ceramics, layered history and contemporary design.

There are showrooms that display products, and then there are spaces that tell a story. The Maora Ceramic showroom in Valencia, designed by award-winning studio Masquespacio, is firmly the latter. Conceived around the narrative "Fragments of Tradition", the space occupies a building constructed in 1800 — and rather than working around its imperfections, the design embraces them entirely.

The Concept

Masquespacio founders Ana Hernández and Christophe Penasse responded to the brief with total immersion. The inclined walls — a structural characteristic of the historic Valencia building — are reinterpreted as traces of time, geological strata that reveal the building's past. Each ceramic tile becomes a fragment of that legacy, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

The Space

Unglazed terracotta ceramic covers the floor, combined with lines of glazed tiles. The walls display glazed pieces of varying sizes, presented as visual strata where Maora's artisan ceramics are exhibited like discovered treasure. A warm palette of terracotta and soft beige acts as a calm backdrop, giving full prominence to the ceramics themselves.

The Studio

Masquespacio is a multidisciplinary interior design studio based in Valencia — and one of the most awarded in Europe. Recipients of Elle Deco International Young Talent of the Year 2020 and Interior Designer of the Year by T Magazine Spain 2019.

If Valencia is on your radar, the Maora Ceramic showroom at Calle Montornés 11 is one address worth adding to the list.
