Montana Furniture Reintroduced a Danish Icon at 3daysofdesign

From 1969 to Now: Danish Heritage Meets Modular Innovation

At this year’s 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, Montana Furniture unveiled Paradigm, a sculptural, reconfigurable sofa with a story rooted in Danish design history. Originally designed in 1969 by Erik Rasmussen and once known as the Paustian Modular Sofa, this timeless piece has been reimagined for today – without losing an ounce of its original spirit.

Now relaunched under the name Paradigm, the sofa has officially entered Montana’s creative universe through a special licensing agreement with Rasmussen’s family. It’s a meeting of eras – vintage vision meets modern modularity.

A Shape-Shifting Classic

Paradigm stays true to its architectural roots with clean lines, bold geometry, and exceptional adaptability. Whether in a cosy apartment, a curated office, or a stylish hotel lobby, this modular icon blends in while standing out. Its building-block approach includes a sofa, matching pouffe, and endlessly reconfigurable modules, making it a true shape-shifter designed to evolve with your space.

Paradigm doesn’t just look good, it performs. With linking brackets, removable covers, replaceable parts, and the option of high legs for easy floor access, it’s built to last, functionally and stylistically. Upholstered in Kvadrat or Gabriel fabrics and filled with fire-resistant foam, it’s a sofa that balances elegance with everyday practicality.

Design That Grows With You

Montana’s reinterpretation of Paradigm is about more than reviving a Danish classic. It’s about giving heritage a new voice, one that speaks to flexibility, sustainability, and creativity.

Produced at Montana’s factory on the island of Funen, the new Paradigm meets EU Ecolabel standards, maintaining the brand’s commitment to responsible, design-led manufacturing.

Timeless, Colourful, Danish

Montana Furniture has always had a flair for colour, and Paradigm is no exception. With its versatile form and rich material palette, it can fade into the background or become the centrepiece, all depending on how you configure it.

One thing’s certain: Paradigm is more than a sofa. It’s a living system. A conversation between past and future. And a new chapter in Danish design history.
