Curiosity is creative fuel for the Antwerp based designers of Nortstudio, founded by Jef de Brabander and Kathleen Opdenacker in 2016. The Belgian couple and business partners have a mutual love for material and technique research, which transcripts into shapes, colors and fully realised furniture and lighting.

Kathleen’s approach is rooted in graphic design, an eye for detail and a broad interest in materials. Jef’s approach is rooted in industrial engineering, profound knowledge of techniques and various craftsman's skills. The interaction that takes place between them plays an important role leading up to the outcome of innovative products.

“We never stop wondering about materials. They are an essential part of the process: it is the notion of transformation during the process that gives direction and is in part what makes the outcome so exciting.”

The duo doesn’t seem to be afraid of pushing boundaries and playing with color nor form. Their search for new materials and techniques makes every part of life an inspiration source, specially their contrast-full neighborhood in the North of Antwerp, from which the studio’s name was diverted.

Incorporating different colors and techniques into their projects has worked perfectly for Nortstudio. They’ve created acclaimed stools, tables and lighting filled with magnificent combinations that make every design lover’s heart beat faster.

“Colour intrigues us. Why are some colours considered ugly? Why are some seen as appropriate at all time? We find it fascinating to combine colours and to see what happens next.”
