A hidden gem in the

Alentejo region of Portugal

Hi design lovers,

Have you ever come across a space which is so beautiful that you have to stop for a minute to process the pure artistry of it? That’s what happened to us when we first saw pictures of Casa Azul.

We seriously have to thank Ricardo Bak Gordon from Bak Gordon Arquitectos, the Lisbon Architecture office, for this precious gem!

The house was built in Grândola, in the rural region of Alentejo, Southern Portugal. In order not to clash against the desert-looking surroundings, dry soil and cork oak trees, the house has been covered in ochre-tinted lime mortar.

If it were not for the clear blue pool located on the south side of the building, the house would make one with the landscape, totally and perfectly camouflaged. Interestingly enough, the pool was actually the starting point of the house and the inspiration of its name, Casa Azul, Blue House.

The geometric shapes of the exterior transcend to the interior as well. The spacious indoor-outdoor areas, designed and styled in a minimal aesthetic, create the most perfect relaxing spots, especially with the play of lights and shadows.

The interior of the house, following the same contemporary approach of the whole project, with tan furnitures, geometric shapes, wide windows and muted earthy tones, looks just as cool as the rest of the house.
