The Ultimate Weekend Escape from Lisbon to Alentejo: Quinta da Paz Eco-Lodge
Just two hours from Lisbon, this peaceful eco-lodge near São LuÃs invites you to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience the quieter side of Alentejo
—
There are places you visit, and places that stay with you. Quinta da Paz, hidden among the rolling landscapes of Alentejo near São LuÃs, belongs firmly to the second category.
Not because of its beautiful canvas tents or peaceful surroundings, but because of the people behind it.
The Founders
Founded by Léa Mondon and Pedro Mandacaru, Quinta da Paz began as a personal dream. After fourteen years as Brand Director at Nike, alongside work with global brands including LVMH and Chanel, Léa left the corporate world in search of something slower, more meaningful and more connected to nature. Pedro, Portuguese, surfer and meditation teacher, had long been living according to that philosophy.
Together with their two young daughters, they created the life they had been dreaming about: one rooted in simplicity, presence and nature.
Today, they gently invite others to experience it too.
This is not simply somewhere to spend the night. It is their family home, thoughtfully opened to guests who are looking for beauty, stillness and genuine connection.
Where to Stay
Accommodation consists of three beautifully designed boutique canvas tents, each featuring its own private terrace, bathroom and hot shower. Fully furnished with thoughtful details, they comfortably accommodate up to four guests, making them perfect for couples, families or friends travelling together. Pets are welcome too.
Everything encourages you to slow down. Mornings begin with birdsong, afternoons are spent by the pool beneath ancient trees, and evenings end beneath some of Portugal's clearest night skies, where countless stars seem impossibly close.
It is the kind of place where time naturally stretches. We've experienced it ourselves, and loved every moment.
The Setting
Quinta da Paz sits just outside the charming village of São LuÃs, one of Alentejo's creative communities, only five minutes away by car.
The wild beauty of Praia do Malhão is around fifteen minutes away, offering one of the region's most spectacular stretches of coastline, while the much-loved Brunheira flea market, held nearby, is only ten minutes from the property and well worth planning your stay around.
Despite being just two hours from Lisbon, the feeling is wonderfully remote. There are no city lights, no rush, only silence, open landscapes and endless star-filled skies.
More Than a Stay
Quinta da Paz is built around experiences rather than accommodation.
Throughout the year, Léa and Pedro host intimate retreats centred on yoga, meditation, mindfulness and conscious living. Guests can also book massages, personalised wellness experiences, surf sessions and kayaking adventures, creating stays that are as restorative or as active as they wish.
The rest is beautifully simple. Enjoy homemade meals served on the terrace, spend slow afternoons surrounded by nature, take a refreshing dip in the little plunge pool, or simply settle into a long chair with a book as the countryside gently slows everything down.
Hospitality here feels wonderfully personal. Léa and Pedro welcome you as if you were part of the family, sharing stories, local recommendations and the kind of generosity that cannot be designed. Their two daughters bring even more warmth to the atmosphere, making Quinta da Paz feel less like a hotel and more like a home you are invited to experience.
And if you're a UNO fan, you're in for a treat. A deck of cards often appears after dinner, bringing guests, hosts and plenty of laughter together beneath one of Portugal's clearest, star-filled skies.
Perhaps that is the greatest luxury Quinta da Paz offers. Not perfection, but presence.
