High-Tech Echo by Nouveau Standard: A Contemporary Design Installation Revisiting 1989
A Contemporary Furniture Collection Inspired by Childhood Memories, Early Technology and Modernism
—
With its latest collection, 1989, High-Tech Echo, French design studio Nouveau Standard explores the intimate visual world of the late 1980s. Founded by Jonathan Fleurance and Simon Brandeau, the studio revisits childhood interiors shaped by early technology, satin finishes and sculptural domestic objects.
Rather than caricaturing the decade, the duo reveals its sensitive modernism — a moment when the future was quietly entering the living room.
From memory to modern design
Following their previous collection, 1976, Souvenirs Rustiques, this new chapter embraces fragmented visions of a time when technological objects and satin textures shaped domestic atmospheres. It is not nostalgia, but transformation: turning visual memories into furniture with a strong, lasting identity.
Entirely made in France, the collection reflects Nouveau Standard’s commitment to local craftsmanship. Metal elements are produced near Angers, while textile work is developed in Nantes, ensuring precision, quality and proximity.
A contemporary heritage
With 1989, High-Tech Echo, Nouveau Standard affirms its ambition to create design that activates memory while projecting forward. The collection stands as a refined exploration of 1980s inspired contemporary furniture, rooted in craft yet defined by bold, architectural clarity.
It marks a compelling example of how past aesthetics can be reinterpreted to shape the future of modern French design.
