Interview with the TINY Family: Founders of Tinycottons & The Tiny Big Sister

Interview with the TINY Family: Founders of Tinycottons & The Tiny Big Sister

How a Barcelona-based family turned a passion for design

into a growing creative universe

Behind every stitch of Tinycottons and every detail of The Tiny Big Sister is a quiet kind of magic—a story spun from love, creativity, and the unshakable bond of family. What began in Barcelona as a bold dream between Barbara Bruno and Gerard Lazcano, has grown into a successful, imaginative universe where design meets meaning, and where playfulness is always infused with purpose.

As their children and family have joined them on their journey—with new chapters like the their toy brand We Are Gommu—the TINY world continues to unfold. It's a world built not just on beautiful things, but on the beautiful connections that bring them to life.

We had the privilege of doing a special interview with the TINY family to uncover the story behind the stitches—the dreams, the laughter, and the love that built not just a brand, but a world.

We dove into the heart of their family-run business—how it all began, what it’s really like to build a creative universe side by side, and how love, play, and purpose continue to shape everything they do.

The Family Behind TINY.

Discover their journey in this special interview.

Are you ready to step inside the world of TINY and discover the magic of where creativity begins? Settle in, it’s a story you'll want to hear.

Can you tell us the story behind the beginning of Tinycottons and The Tiny Big Sister?

Tinycottons was born in Barcelona in 2012, founded by Barbara Bruno and Gerard Lazcano. It started as a children's clothing brand with a strong graphic approach, storytelling and quality. Over time, this universe grew naturally, and one of its expansions was The Tiny Big Sister, a line designed for women, which maintains the same visual language and design values.

Over time, the TINY universe has grown to include your children and even your sister. Did you always imagine them being part of the journey, or did it happen organically?

It has been a very organic process. Each new brand or member that joins the TINY universe has emerged from a creative or vital need, not from a cold strategy. It's like having different children: each one has its own personality, its own challenges and its own space within the universe.

With your youngest son modeling, Cruz and Cata each stepping into their own roles, how does it feel to watch them carve their own paths within the brand?

It’s incredibly special. Watching my youngest son model for the brand is like seeing the spirit of Tinycottons come full circle. Family has always been at the heart of everything we do.

And Cruz and Cata stepping into their own roles brings us, my husband and me, so much pride. They each bring their own vision, their own taste, and a new kind of energy that’s fresh but still rooted in our values. It’s not about following a path, it’s about shaping their own, and doing it from a place of authenticity and love for what we’ve built together.

What are some of the best and most challenging parts of working so closely with family? Any golden rules you follow to keep work and personal life balanced?

One of the most beautiful things is to share a project with those you trust completely and with whom there is a strong emotional connection. The hardest thing, sometimes, is to separate personal and professional roles. The key is mutual respect and knowing how to listen, even when you don't agree. And, also giving space outside of work to remain family.

What has the experience of building a family-run business taught you both as parents and as entrepreneurs?

It has taught us to be patient, to trust the process and to understand that building something solid takes time. As parents, it has also allowed us to show, for example, values such as constancy, authenticity and working with purpose.

If each family member had to describe Tinycottons in one word, what would they say?

That’s a fun one! I think I would say passion. I absolutely love my job, and my everyday life.

Cruz would say ‘bold’ — she’s always pushing for ideas that stand out and challenge the norm. She studies design and it’s a relief to have her next to me.

Cata might say ‘clever’ — she’s more into numbers and strategy, now learning after finishing her business college, and is close to our CEO.

My youngest would probably just say ‘cool’ — he sees the clothes from a kid’s perspective, which is the best filter.

And for my husband, it’s ‘genuine’. From day one, Tinycottons has been about honesty, quality, and staying true to who we are.

What’s next for Tinycottons, The Tiny Big Sister, and We Are Gommu? Any dreams or surprises on the horizon?

We remain committed to selective growth, focusing on coherence rather than speed. We want to consolidate our visual and emotional language in each new adventure. Hijos de Nata, our artisanal ice-cream parlour, was an unexpected but natural step in this direction. And yes, there are always new ideas in the air.

How does SS25 reflect where Tinycottons and The Tiny Big Sister are headed? Is there one piece this season that feels especially exciting to you?

SS25 is a beautiful snapshot of where we’re going. For Tinycottons, it’s a season that blends playfulness with depth—we’re growing up, but without losing that childlike point of view. The themes explore freedom, movement, and a more open, adventurous world, both literally and creatively.

For The Tiny Big Sister, it’s about confidence and softness coexisting. The woman behind the brand is becoming more defined, more intentional.

There’s one piece I keep coming back to—a light, oversized coat in a buttery yellow cotton. It feels like a hug, and at the same time, like a bold step. It captures both the comfort and courage that I think define this season.
